Postdoctoral Researcher
Soonwoo Hong is a Postdoctoral Researcher. He received his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, where he was advised by Dr. Tim Yeh. His research focused on DNA-templated silver nanoclusters (DNA/AgNCs), and he developed a novel, non-FRET reporter using DNA/AgNCs for CRISPR/Cas diagnostics. This project fueled his interest in synthetic biology and CRISPR/Cas diagnostics, leading him to the Myhrvold lab. Before his time at UT Austin, he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Korea University in South Korea, where he worked on biosensor applications using surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). Outside the lab, Soonwoo enjoys running, watching various sports, and spending time with his wife and baby boy.
