Ofer Kimchi

Lewis-Sigler Theory Scholar

Ofer Kimchi is a Lewis-Sigler Theory Scholar. He received his PhD in Biophysics from Harvard University, advised by Michael Brenner. He is broadly interested in exploring the mechanisms by which structures arise in biology from molecular interactions. How does biology leverage its inherent out-of-equilibrium aspects to realize robust assemblies, and to what extent can we implement similar processes in laboratory settings? His research focuses especially on these questions in the context of RNA-RNA interactions, including their regulation by intramolecular secondary structure. Cas13 provides an ideal system in which to address these questions. In his free time, Ofer enjoys swimming, playing piano, and rereading Discworld for the umpteenth time.
